What is the E-Myth?

Most small business owners say they started their own business on the assumption that their business would provide these things.

But just because business owners are expert in the technical work of their businesses doesn't mean they are able to build and run their business.

Example: Bob is a trained plumber and can easily repair plumbing systems. However he doesn't know how to design marketing campaigns to attract new customers, hire and motivate key employees, or properly manage his cash.

This is an example of the "E-Myth," the Entrepreneurial Myth in action; the fatal assumption that individuals who understand the technical work of a business must also inherently know how to run a business that does that kind of technical work.

Sooner or later the day comes when they realize that just as they invested time and energy in learning their trade or profession, they now need to acquire business development skills and learn how to effectively manage and grow a business.
