About the Author: Eleanor Hodgman Porter was born in New Hampshire in 1868 and studied music in Boston until 1901, when she gave up singing to pursue writing. She died in Massachusetts in 1920.Rebecca Burns is editor-in-chief of Atlanta Magazine, which has won numerous regional and national awards under her direction.
